I packed up my Airbnb and by noon on Wednesday had moved across town to my new house in Upper Lawrenceville.
Upper Lawrenceville is the hippest part of the hippest part of Pittsburgh. Central Lawrenceville has been quite gentrified, but Upper Lawrenceville is still a bit gritty although changing fast. Seems like half the houses are being renovated or are for sale or have recently been on fire. My house is up the hill from the main street (Butler) so quieter (and cheaper).
I was excited to finally move in and settle into my actual place with my actual furniture. I checked to see what time on Thursday my POD would arrive with all my stuff. My jaw dropped when I saw the date is set for next Thursday. An angry phone call later got me nowhere. “Unforeseen circumstances.” Frantic rescheduling of movers and my parents to come up next week ensued. I had some clothes and a mattress for a week.
Thursday I did a trip to Target to buy some basics so I could survive here for a week. A pot, a bowl, a set of sheets, some silverware. Thankfully, electricity, gas, and internet (the essentials) were all working. Since I’m now in charge of a sidewalk, I went to go get some salt for melting the ice and snow out in front. The house is finally mine, but that’s cold comfort as the dog and I fall asleep on a mattress on the dining room floor the rest of the house echoing empty.
Moving sucks. But this might be next level.
